Youth Corner: How can I drive and be green?

This week's letter comes from Sok Try, who's having problems with staying eco-friendly in Phnom Penh when it comes to driving. "After walking and cycling for ten years, I’ve just upgraded to an electric bike this past April. Because I live upstairs, however, I need to pay for parking – so I leave it at work instead. The problem is that at work, I don’t have a power station to charge up the bike. The battery is about 10 kilos, which makes it difficult to bring back and forth between home and work. It’s truly difficult to live ‘green’ in Phnom Penh, I’m realising. With a push bike, I have to deal with pedaling through hot weather and your friends don’t respect you; with an electric bike, well – I’ve already mentioned the problems. My mother says I should buy a regular motorbike, but that emits fuels that are harmful to the environment. I’d like to hear from other LIFT readers if there are any solutions to my problem. Does anyone know how I can get around the city easily while staying environmentally-friendly?"
